Presentation of the institute

The laboratory Biotechnology and Cell Signalling UMR 7242 | CNRS Unistra is a joint research unit supported by the CNRS and the University of Strasbourg.

Through its scientific orientations, the UMR 7242 is at the crossroads of functional biology and biotechnologies. Our research teams combine functional and structural genomics, biological chemistry (molecular screening) and biological engineering in order to decode cell signaling pathways and develop new molecules and strategies for therapeutic intervention.

Our research teams are particularly focusing their research on scientific questions related to genome integrity, pain and inflammation, and infectious pathogens.

The institute is housed in the research building of the Ecole Supérieure de Biotechnologie de Strasbourg (ESBS), a higher education school offering a high level tri-national teaching program in the field of biotechnology.

The institute hosts a large number of ESBS lecturers and professors and is therefore in direct connection with the teaching programs at the ESBS. Our activities reflect the diversity of the research themes necessary for a harmonious articulation of teaching and research activities.

The institute is located in the heart of the Illkirch campus south of Strasbourg, which brings together several higher education and research institutions, biotech companies, and actors in innovation and start-up support, in a privileged and international environment.

We support the scientific cooperation and animation with the other research institutes of the campus (Faculty of Pharmacy, IGBMC | Institute of Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, ICube) in order to promote the scientific strategy of the campus at the interface of functional, chemical and structural genomics.

The UMR 7242 has about one hundred researchers, lecturers, post-docs, doctoral students, engineers, technicians and administrative staff. Thanks to its technical platforms and common services, and access to the scientific equipment and technological platforms of the campus, the institute offers a working environment that fosters scientific excellence.
